EPCOT 2026 Bonsai Application Reminder

Disney display signup by December 31

  • Since the inception of the Flower and Garden Festival in 1997, the Bonsai Societies of Florida (BSF) has collaborated with Walt Disney World (WDW) to showcase Bonsai at Epcot. This display is far from ordinary and involves a process unlike any typical exhibit creation. To Disney ticket holders, what may appear as just another display amidst countless plants and flowers represents months of meticulous planning to present the trees on their stands.
  • This year Disney will exhibit bonsai in both the Japanize and China pavillions.
    • Japan will host classic Japanize bonsai styles
    • China will host styles that lean toward Chineze traditions, often referred to as Penjing

Details and Applications:

Please go to this link to read more about the event, process, and application. Applications need to be submitted by December 31, 2025.

Bonsai in Brevard – September 2025

Sept 20th – Jaboticaba

This month’s club meeting will feature TJ Snyman who will perform a demonstration of a large Jaboticaba. A drawing for the tree will be held after the demo.

The Jaboticaba tree (Plinia cauliflora) is native to eastern and southeastern Brazil, with its range extending into Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia. It’s especially associated with the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Goiás, and São Paulo in Brazil. This tropical species thrives in warm, humid climates and is celebrated for its unique cauliflorous fruiting—where the grape-like fruits grow directly on the trunk. It features fine foliage, creamy flowers, and thrives in warm, humid conditions—ideal for informal upright styles.

Note: This month, we will meet at the Melbourne Public Library, 540 E. Fee Blvd (at 1pm.)

Bonsai in Brevard – July 2025

July 19th – Exposed Root Workshop Review

At this meeting we will revisit and review the exposed root plantings we did in Sept 2024. At that meeting, Rob guided us in creating an exposed root style pre-bonsai tree using PVC pipe, wire, and rocks. And it’s time to repot!

For those who have trees from Sept 2024, we ask you to bring a bonsai pot and tools for repotting.

For those who don’t have trees, we will offer some cuttings and materials to begin your exposed root journey. A nominal fee will be charged. Spots will be first come first served.

The club will supply wire and soil. All you need to do is bring tools and a willingness to have some fun.

As a reminder, the Kempinski Korner post (Exposed) gives an overview of the techniques to be used in this workshop.

Note: This month, we will meet at the Melbourne Public Library, 540 E. Fee Blvd (at 1pm.)

Bonsai in Brevard – June 2025

June 21 – Cosmic Style Jaboticaba and BYOT

AC Castle won the 2025 BSF Styling Competition for his Hollywood juniper, recognized for its design inspired by nature. With that honor, AC will present “Cosmic Bonsai,” a demo and bring your own tree workshop as part of the June program.

In the demonstration, he will show a PowerPoint presentation on the cosmic style and transform a Jaboticaba into an otherworldly bonsai. For the BYOT portion, participants should bring their own sapling or leggy tree (such as Elm, cypress, TX Ebony, ficus, sea hibiscus, buttonwood) to create their own cosmic bonsai. A drawing will be held for the demo tree.

Note: This month, we will meet at the Melbourne Public Library, 540 E. Fee Blvd (at 1pm.)
